Please join us to experience a traditional Blessing Ceremony by Andy Everson from the K’ómoks First Nation and see Andy's art work on display for Culture Days. As our new Native ART Gallery is finishing completion, Andy will be blessing the beginning of this new building. He will share the tradition of Blessing, as well as the process and Songs involved.
A Blessing Ceremony is a way to cleanse the space both physically and spiritually to prepare it for its coming life,” he explains. “Traditionally, when we open new bighouses or when we start a canoe or a totem pole, we have a Blessing Ceremony. They take different forms, and often involve chanting and brushing down of the space with branches.”
Participants are welcome to ask questions, as well view and talk with Andy directly about his featured artwork. Everyone is welcome. Free refreshments will be offered.
