Black History Month: Nanaimo African Heritage Society�s Opening Ceremony

February is Black History Month and the Nanaimo African Heritage Society is offering celebrations and events for the Nanaimo community to enjoy throughout the entire month. The Grand Opening Ceremony for celebrations for Black History Month in Nanaimo takes place at the Nanaimo Downtown Library at 90 Commercial Street.
Admission is by donation and refreshments will be served on Friday Feb 12th, 2016 from 2:00 pm-4:00 pm.
The Grand Opening Ceremony will feature international acoustic guitarist Daniel Gerrard.
An exciting schedule of events is available for viewing on the Nanaimo African Heritage Society’s website at www.nanaimoafricanheritagesociety.com. The numerous events offered throughout the month of February include the Nostalgia Jazz & Gospel Concert on Sunday February 21st, 2016 at Brechin United Church with doors and art exhibits and vendors opening at 2 pm and the concert at 3 pm. Featured performers include the very gifted vocalist Gina Williams, the exceptionally talented Maureen Washington and Her Jazz Combo and the fun Watoto Fusion Dancers. Featured Black History Month television spots will air in February on SHAW TV.

Christian Science presents ‘Meaningful chance for ourselves and the world’, a lecture with Mark McCurties Friday Feb 20th, 2016 at 12 pm noon at the Grand Hotel at 4898 Rutherford Rd. Nanaimo, BC. The Grand Finale for Dinner and Dance will be featuring performances by Ezra Kwizera, Valerie Mason-John and Adelene da Soul Poet aka Bertha Clark and will take place Saturday February 27th at the Bowen Complex on 500 Bowen Rd. Doors open at 5 pm for visual arts and vendor tables and dinner will be held at 7 pm Tickets are $40.00, Children under 13 – $20.00 Partial proceeds will go to the help of refugees. Tickets for the Jazz & Gospel Concert and the Finale Dinner Dance Gala are available at the Port Theatre, Arbutus Music and at Fascinating Rhythm at 250-716-9997 and at the Nanaimo African Heritage Society office.
