Bike 'n' Bitz Bicycle Swap

Riding on the success of last years event, the second annual Bike n Bitz bicycle and gear swap is happening again with all monies raised going to the Cumberland Community Forest Society. Falling on the last day of Bike-to-Work Week, the Valleys only cycle-centric public sale and swap will be a great chance to buy a pre-loved bicycle, part or accessory to keep cycling all summer long. Bike n Bitz is at 1pm on Sunday June 6th in the Cumberland Recreation Institutes Car Park with a fun bicycle show and shine at 1 3pm!
The event is open to anyone with something cycling to sell. Bring the bicycle, frame, fork, parts, clothing or accessory (no helmets) on Saturday between 1 5pm or Sunday 10 1pm and register in the CRI car park off Dunsmuir Avenue. Your item will be tagged and you will receive a numbered ticket. Items priced over $75 will require a valid photo ID. The sale starts Sunday at 1pm until 4pm at which point, if your item has sold, you return your ticket and receive your money minus 10%. If it hasnt sold, you get it back. If you wish to donate something, just drop it off and if we dont sell it, various local cycling charities will benefit such as World Community Bikes. Cumberlands first bicycle Show and Shine is open to anyone, just bring your bike and show it off and there might well be a prize for the peoples favourite.
Organizer Robin Burch is working with the Cumberland Community Forest Society to shape this years event into a family friendly affair that showcases not only cycling but also the importance of the work the CCFS are doing in the community. Having already purchased 150 acres and donating the land to the village, the CCFS is already working towards acquiring a second parcel of the historic forest which features some of the most popular hiking and mountain biking trails in the Comox Valley. The CCFS will be there to encourage monthly donations so please bring a blank cheque for the process.
The aim of Bike n Bitz is to promote cycling as a fun, affordable and environmentally responsible means of getting around says Robin. Last year we re-cycled over $7500 in bicycles and accessories with over 50 bikes and tables crammed with working parts and clothing. We were surprised by the variety of bikes and at how many parents traded bikes for their kids and bought a cheap ride for themselves. They walked there but rode away; and thats why we do this explained Robin. However, Cumberland wouldnt be the visitor destination it is without the forest and the work of the CCFS, and as a village that embraces cycling, it seems fair to integrate both causes here.
