A modern comedy about finding out who you really are. Salt Baby is a Six Nations woman whose light skin sets her apart from her relatives, both on the rez and in the city. She’s a fish out of water and, accompanied by her Caucasian boyfriend, Alligator, she’s determined to discover how she fits into her two very different worlds.

Why I Chose This Play
It’s important for me that our audiences leave the theatre understanding a corner of the world that they haven’t seen before. Salt Baby gives us that in spades – and with great humour and theatricality. Salt Baby, her boyfriend, and her father, are played by three actors. All of the other (often outrageous) characters, both male and female, are played by one actor in a tour-de-force performance. I know our audience is going to love Salt Baby, and root for her on her journey of self-discovery. —Michael Shamata
