Behind the Scenes Tours

The Nanaimo Museum is inviting the community behind the scenes to see how exhibits are designed. Museum staff members will be preparing for the upcoming Christmas in the Golden Age of Radio feature exhibit and seasonal display of historical photographs showing Nanaimo in the winter.
The tours provide an opportunity for the community to find out how ideas become exhibits. “We created these tours so the community can see how an exhibit is created by our staff team,” says Aimee Greenaway, Interpretation Curator at the Nanaimo Museum. “The majority of our work happens out of the public eye so we are providing an opportunity for people to see how an exhibit comes together.” Every year the museum installs four temporary exhibits in the feature gallery. The exhibits vary from travelling exhibits shipped from other museums and galleries to ones created in-house at the museum.
Staff members who work on exhibits will be sharing their experiences and providing demonstrations. “We will be preparing artifacts for display, mounting and framing images and designing how the upcoming exhibits will look,” says Greenaway. “All of us are looking forward to meeting people, answering questions about exhibits and having an opportunity to showcase how our community museum works behind the scenes.”
Behind the Scenes tours take place on Thursdays, November 12 & 19 from 1:30-2:15 and the cost is included in regular admission. Pre-registration is required for the Behind the Scenes tour. Space is limited.
