Wednesday, January 15th, 2014
12:00 PM to 1:30 PM

A Roundtable Leader will guide HR practitioners through a discussion on specific topics related to the field of Human Resources. This allows for sharing of knowledge, strategies, lessons-learned, and practical tips, tools, and techniques. Participants are encouraged to actively engage in the discussion, ask questions, and provide real scenarios. A variety of formats will be used depending on the topic and the facilitator (i.e. group discussions, case studies etc.).

Topic and facilitator Information: Emergency Preparedness

Rob Johns, Victoria Emergency Management Agency (VEMA), Emergency Coordinator for the City of Victoria, has worked for the City in emergency management for 13 years. In that time he has had opportunity to travel or work in Kelowna and Kamloops following the fire season in 2003, areas impacted by Hurricane Katrina, as well as Christchurch, New Zealand following their large earthquakes in 2010 and 2011.

For more information on Emergency Management -

Using real-world examples from New Orleans and Christchurch Rob will lead a discussion on:
Why bother being prepared earthquakes, fires, flu
What can happen in Victoria what does an earthquake here look like?
What you can do to be prepared (i.e. Staff Preparedness, how to make you space safer)
The event has happened now what?

Pre-registration is required by January 13th.
