Before/Bach: Composers who influenced J.S. Bach
Come explore the intimacy and splendour of the composers who influenced Johann Sebastian Bach.
Neglected by musicians, the period of German vocal and instrumental music of the 17th century is one of the richest periods in music history. A veritable treasure-trove of beautiful yet powerfully expressive works that have lost none of their impact or appeal. Bach on the Rock presents Before/Bach, a programme of some of the best compositions from the 17th century that had a direct influence on the music of J.S. Bach and his contemporaries. We will also perform Bach’s sensational early cantata “Christ lag in Todesbanden” as well as works by well-known composers Johann Pachelbel (including his famous Canon), Dietrich Buxtehude, and Georg Phillip Telemann alongside works by Johann Michael Nicolai and Johann Bernhard Bach, (Johann’s second cousin!). Come and join us for an afternoon of gorgeous exploration!
