The Sidney Literary Festival and Tanner’s Books will be hosting the fourth in their spring series of reading events with authors John Crouch and Briony Penn. They will discuss and read from their latest books.
John Crouch is a well-known athlete and writer who has published three successful guidebooks: Bike Victoria, Walk Victoria, Hike Victoria, and a travel memoir, Six Highways to Home. John Crouch’s latest guidebook, Cycling the Islands, is the perfect resource and the ultimate guidebook for travellers looking to explore the beauty and splendour of British Columbia’s Gulf Islands and the American San Juan Islands by bicycle.
For ten years Crouch was the editor of the professional medical journal, the BC Massage Practitioner and was founding editor of Island Runner magazine. He has also workedwith CBC Radio promoting walking and hiking in the Victoria area.
Salt Spring Island author Briony Penn is a naturalist, writer, educator, and broadcaster well known in BC for her indomitable spirit and tireless devotion to protecting endangered species and sensitive ecosystems in her native British Columbia. Her latest book, The Real Thing: The Natural History of Ian McTaggart Cowan, is a 2016 BC Book Prize Winner.
Penn has published hundreds of articles in newspapers and magazines, government publications and peer-reviewed journals. She’s written environmental guides and handbooks for teachers in British Columbia on topics ranging from forest ecosystems and biodiversity to the natural and cultural history of the Salish Sea. She is also an illustrator / artist who has exhibited and published widely on natural history themes.
