The Heaviness of Things That Float, author Jennifer Manuel's debut novel about a nurse living on the fringes of a remote First Nations community, has been on the BC bestseller's list since its release in April this year.
The Fishers of Paradise, Rachael Preston's third novel, set in Cootes Paradise on the shores of Lake Ontario, was recently honoured by Project Bookmark Canada, a Canadian cultural innovation that creates permanent site-specific literary exhibits using text from imagined stories that take place in real locations.
The Fishers of Paradise Bookmark was unveiled on Hamilton's Desjardins Trail, June 9, 2016. Both The Heaviness of Things That Float and The Fishers of Paradise centre on life in marginalized communities, and the havoc that secrets and the need to maintain appearances can wreak on families and those who seek to belong.
