The VIU Department of Art and Design presents the third installment in their 2010 Visiting Artist series featuring BC Artist and RCA member Robert Chaplin.
Chaplin received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Victoria, and was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 2004. His obsidian carving representing the North Wind was awarded third place in the Objects of Art category of the 2002 American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) Cutting Edge awards. Chaplin currently teaches at Emily Carr University of Art + Design.
Chaplin's "Brussels Sprouts & Unicorns: a Book of Rhymes" won 1st prize in the children's book category of the Alcuin Society's 2009 Awards for Excellence in Book Design in Canada. Chaplin manages all aspects of the creation, publication, and distribution of his books: he writes, illustrates, plays with typefaces, lays out pages, oversees printing and binding, publishes, distributes, and promotes.
