Venerated Canadian writer, environmentalist and journalist Des Kennedy introduces his new book, Heart & Soil: The Revolutionary Good of Gardens (Harbour Publishing, $24.95). The event starts at 7:00pm, and doors open at 6:00pm. Admission is free for Eaglecrest Garden Club members and $5 for non-members. Kennedy will be available to personalize copies of his book in advance of his presentation.
Gardeners of all levels and varieties can appreciate Des Kennedys perspective as he shares his experiences tending his spectacular garden for over forty years. His latest collection of short essays, Heart & Soil: The Revolutionary Good of Gardens, is drawn from articles composed over the last decade and showcases both Kennedys wit and wisdom. His stories are heartwarming, inspiring and often comical as he reflects on topics from conquering clay to loving ladybugs to creating an asparagus bed for the ages. The book is complete with an insert of colour photographs that depict the flourishing garden oasis created by Des and his wife Sandy on Denman Island, BC.
Des Kennedy is the author of five books of essays including his memoir, The Way of a Gardener, and three novels including Climbing Patricks Mountain. He is an award-winning journalist, broadcaster and environmental activist, and a three-time Stephen Leacock Award nominee. Touted as one of the most influential personalities on the Canadian gardening scene and one of our countrys finest gardening writers, he has been a columnist for the Globe and Mail and for CBC Television.
