This course takes a journey from Renaissance to Modern Art and looks at what happens to art movements in their second generation when trends, styles and preoccupations are set, and artists self-consciously press on to the development of their chosen style. Artists and movements covered include Michelangelo, Archimboldo, Bronzino, Fontana, The Antwerp Mannerists, El Greco, The French Academy in the early 1800s, Early Modernism and the Greenberg School of Modernism.
