Art History: Dada to Pop 1915-1965

Using the Dada movement as a point of departure, this course follows Western visual art from the early to mid-20th century to the Pop Art of the 1960s. Students become familiarized with leading movements such as Surrealism, New Objectivity, Abstract Expressionism, Neo Dada and Pop. Discussions focus on the ideas, materials, and social and political contexts of artists who made up these movements. Class formats include image-based lectures, class discussion and readings.
