10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

The Old School House Arts Centre is hosting its annual Winter Open House. A unique aspect of Arts Centre is the resident artists’ studios, where artists work in a variety of mediums. Visitors have the opportunity to get a first-hand perspective of the creative process by watching the artists at work and discussing their techniques with them. Mediums include watercolour, acrylics, pastels, rock carving, silversmithing and photography. The finished works of the artists are also on display in their studios.

The high quality work and craft of many local artisans is beautifully displayed for viewing and purchase in our gift shop. Paintings, jewellery, ceramics, sculpture, fibre arts and specialty cards make the Gallery Shop the perfect place to find that special piece.

Ten guest artists will be displaying their uniquework in the classroom: Randy Hall, photographer; Wendy Maurer with her Beads of Joy; painter, Magery Blom and wood carvers Jai and Val Kealy and others.

The Mid Island Floral Design Club will create a magical atmosphere with artistically decorated trees that will twinkle with holiday cheer. Imaginative Christmas wreaths designed by the club will be displayed and a silent auction will help to fill the stockings of local charities.

The exhibition, Winter in Art will feature a show called Vancouver Island: North and South. Brian Scott from Black Creek and Nixie Barton and Grant Leier from Nanaimo.

This event is an indoor art walk by allowing guests to stroll through the warm and dry arts centre to visit seven studios, twenty-seven resident artists, ten guest artisans and one great gift shop!
