Art and the Language of Craft: The Contemporary Quilt

This course will include information about the history of quilting, from making practical and functional items to its contemporary use as a tool to express ideas about place, politics and identity. Students will learn basic quilt-making techniques and supplement, subvert or alter these techniques to create expressive and personal projects. Course format includes slide presentations, hands-on studio time and group critiques. Students will complete some short writing assignments and do an in-class presentation on an artist of their choice.
