Fashion Meets Art at this Art Gallery Fundraiser.

Fashion is rarely elevated to the same stature as painting, music, sculpture or architecture. And yet, it is a true expression of art because it is art lived daily.

The Associates of the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria (AGGV) pay homage to the fashion world’s creative expressionism with their latest fundraiser, Art & Fashion…together on the runway. And they’ve married fashion with art to promote the relationship between the two.Partnering for this event is the Union Club of BC.

The show will feature the Art to Wear designs of Marianne Greaves. Greaves studied fashion design and merchandising and after 27 years in the industry, she decided to launch her business in Vancouver. Her entire collection is designed and made in her home studio/workshop.

Other local designer and artist creations will accent fashions worn by volunteer models ranging in age from 30 to 80. Maycock Eyewear, Fluevog Shoes, Figgie Jewellery at Aurea and Maria Curcic Millinery will be featured on the runway. Munro’s Books, POD Contemporary, Calla Design, Chateau Victoria, Abstract Developments, Monk Office, Deedrie Ballard (Remax Camosun) FinlaysonBonet, Niche Travel and JonesEmery are sponsors. YAM and Boulevard magazines are media sponsors. Poppies Floral Art is providing the table centerpieces.

Margo Goodhand, former editor-in-chief of the Edmonton Journal and the Winnipeg Free Press, will emcee the event. She has been published in newspapers and magazines across Canada, including the Globe and Mail and The Walrus. In 2017, her book Runaway Wives and Rogue Feminists: The Origins of the Women’s Shelter Movement in Canada was released.

The show features a silent auction of visual art by local artists and larger works, along with fashions and other items, will be for sale in the specially named Boutique Shop.

There are plenty of door and raffle prizes and gift bags for everyone. Join in the fun and support the Art Gallery’s exhibitions and programs.
