Art 10 Gallery's Thirtieth Anniversary Event

Art 10 Gallery is celebrating it's Thirtieth Anniversary with a special day-long event in the Centre Court of the Nanaimo North Town Centre on May 25th, 2013.

Art 10 is a cooperative gallery located in the mall, and currently has twenty-seven members. The organization comprises painters who use various media and a wide range of subject matter, jewelry-makers, potters, and glass-makers.

The name "Art 10" derives from the ten original members who formed the group in May 1983, two of whom are still active members (Dorothy Sevcov and Gerd Bodin). To honour the founding members, a complete list of their names and examples of their artwork will be on display on May 25th. There will also be displays of historical information on the years of the members' participation in the Nanaimo Community.

From 9:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., visitors can meet the artists of Art 10, watch them in action, and even join in creating a group masterpiece. There will be demonstrations in the mall outside of the Art 10 gallery of print-making, pottery, jewelry-making, pastel drawing, glass-making, and painting (watercolour, acrylic, and oil). Two interactive large-scale canvases will be available with an invitation for the public to try out their hand at painting. One canvas will be available for children to create; the other, for adults.

But what's a party without a cake and gifts? At 3:00 p.m., Art 10 will celebrate it's birthday with founding member Doris Paterson, by cutting and sharing a large cake. The co-op will also give away a gift basket including original art - paintings, art cards, jewelry, glass, and pottery - donated by it's members. All visitors need to do is come out and join the event. Complimentary tickets for the draw will be available inside the gallery throughout the month of May right up to the time of the draw on May 25th.
