Salt Spring Baroque is pleased to present Romanian bass-baritone Razvan Georgescu on July 7th at 7:00 pm at All Saints by-the-Sea Church. For this concert he will perform two Bach Cantatas, BWV 56 ”Ich will den Kreuzstab gerne tragen” and BWV 82”Ich habe genug”. He will be joined by harpsichordist Bogdan Dulu and baroque cellist Martin Bonham. Bogdan will be playing a beautiful single register harpsichord, based on a 17th century Flemish instrument and built by Fabrizio Acanfora in Barcelona. Other Bach treats may be on offer!

RAZVAN GEORGESCU

Romanian bass-baritone Razvan Georgescu has performed major roles with the Romanian National Opera, San Francisco Lyric Opera, Brasov Opera, Opera Constanta and countless performances with National Philharmonics and National Radio Orchestra in Bucharest, Romania. His operatic repertoire includes Don Bartholo, Don Magnifico, Dandini (Rossini), Figaro, and Count Almaviva Leporello (Mozart), Rigoletto, Rodrigo, and Renato (Verdi), Don Pasquale, Dulcamara (Donizetti). Mr. Georgescu’s concert repertoire includes works by Bach, Verdi, Mozart, Puccini, Rossini, Beethoven, Salieri, Britten, Handel, Schubert, Enescu and many more. He is also a music director, actor and singer for the Walt Disney Company in Romania. An accomplished stage director and recording artist, Mr. Georgescu is the recipient of two major awards: ‘Best Baritone’ and second place overall, at the California International Opera Competition in 2004 and the best recording artist in 2002, in Romania. Mr. Georgescu has toured numerous countries throughout Europe and Asia. He in currently the soloist of the “George Enescu” National Philharmonics in Bucharest, Romania. Razvan is also a professor at the National Academy of Theater and Film and an award winning music reviewer.

BOGDAN DULU

Dr. Bogdan Dulu completed his undergraduate studies in Bucharest, Romania and has graduate degrees from Mannes School of Music in New York City and the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. His principal teachers include Jane Coop, Irina Morozova, Ana Pitis, Rena Sharon, Verona Maier, and Viorela Ciucur.

Dulu has competed in prestigious international piano competitions, among them Sendai, Helsinki, New Orleans, Calgary (Honens), Bucharest (Enescu), Cincinnati, and Seattle. He toured extensively across Canada as a signed artist with Jeunesses Musicales and Debut Atlantic. His High-Voltage Piano/Piano Haute-Voltige program highlighting piano music of Marc-André Hamelin reached audiences across Eastern Canada with a marathon tour of 19 solo recitals in 7 weeks. He also toured the Northwest Territories, reaching communities above the Arctic Circle. He has performed in Europe, North America, Asia, and Africa, being equally at home as a soloist as well as a chamber musician, collaborative and orchestral pianist, coach, or public speaker. Radio appearances include NHK Tokyo, YLE Finland, Romanian Radio, KING FM Seattle, WFMT Chicago, and the CBC.

Dr. Dulu has also taught piano at the UBC School of Music as a sessional instructor. He is a sought-after adjudicator for festivals and concerto competitions, and has given masterclasses at Dalhousie University, University of New Brunswick, and Douglas College, among others. He serves on the advisory committee for the Pacific International Youth Music Society, and is a member of the Canadian Federation of Musicians. Dulu has been on faculty at the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra School of Music since 2016 – he is a mentor in the Performance Prep Program, teaches piano, and serves as piano department co-chair. He can be heard playing the piano, celeste, synth, and the harpsichord in the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

MARTIN BONHAM

A member of the Victoria Symphony since 1978 and past Music Director of the Pachelbel Players, Island Chamber Players, Chamber Music Victoria and Eine Kleine Summer Music, Martin Bonham’s ability as a chamber musician and expertise in Baroque music has a wide reputation with participation in the Portland Baroque Orchestra, Pacific Baroque Orchestra, the Musick Masters, Island Baroque and Les Violes de Sainte-Colombe. He has performed with world renowned early music specialists at the Vancouver Early Music Festival, the Cascade Early Music Festival and elsewhere. Currently a faculty member of the Victoria Conservatory of Music, he has served on the faculty of the University of Victoria and often leads workshops on Baroque string technique.
