Are you ready to AMP IT UP?

The Port Theatre Society presents its 2nd annual free youth concert featuring Vancouver indie rock quartet Gay Nineties, with local knockouts Lovecoast and Ian Perry opening the show. The goal of this free youth event is to break down barriers to inclusion and bring together like-minded youth under one roof for a night of great music, local talent, food, prizes and fun.

Gay Nineties:
The 1890s era, also known as The Gay Nineties, showcased the innocent indulgence of a society on the brink as it danced its way into freedom and fire. Gay Nineties, the band, weave the decadence of the 1890s into the breezy white cotton of 1970s yacht rock, the platinum sheen and diamond dust of glam, and the steel rails of American songwriting. No shoe gazing, no moody blues. When Gay Nineties play, the crowd feels as it came to feel— freaked out, alive, and free.

Working with producer, Scott Ternan (54-40, Sam Roberts) and mixers, Steve Bays (Hot Hot Heat, Mounties) and Ryan Dahl (Limblifter, Mounties), Gay Nineties recorded their latest record Liberal Guilt in 2015. The acclaimed first single “ Letterman” debuted at #34 on Canadian Billboard Charts before climbing to #3 on Mediabase Alt Rock and holding steady on the chart for 20+ weeks. Followed up by the second single Hold Your Fire (#1 most added / #1 Top Gainer). Gay Nineties continue to achieve national radio success and receive critical and fan acclaim with their undeniable live show and songs.

Lovecoast’s blend of old soul, fresh pop and hard hitting grooves leaves you feeling fresh and nostalgic all at once. After a successful 2015 gracing stages like Pemberton Music Festival 2015, Lovecoast hasn’t let 2016 slow them down. Along with their newly released single ‘The Floor’, this 5-piece soul-pop group played JUNOfest 2016 and were named Band of the Month for April 2016 at The Zone 91.3 in Victoria.

Ian Perry is a multi-instrumentalist from Nanaimo BC who began performing at the age of nine. In the 6 years since, he has built an impressive resume including performances with Loverboy, Shaun Verreault of Wide Mouth Mason, and the David Foster Miracle Weekend as well as performances at the closing ceremonies of the BC Summer Games and Nanaimo’s Summertime Blues Festival.
