Canadian coloratura soprano, Ambur Braid, and Canadian conductor-pianist Topher Mokshevski have collaborated to bring you an afternoon of French poetry in song together with some of Ambur's most popular arias. Her signature role is the Queen of the Night in Mozart's Magic Flute, with stunning performances as Handel's Semele, Massenet's Esclarmonde, Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, and Violetta in La Traviata at Arizona Opera this spring. Ms. Braid was Konstanze in Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail at Opera Atelier. Last season at Canadian Opera Company she was seen in Die Fledermaus as Adele. A believer in all forms of collaborative art, Ambur has performed with Broken Social Scene, The Arkells, Austra and the Sam Roberts Band as well as opening for Tony Bennett and the Tragically Hip. Ambur started her journey in Terrace BC, came to Victoria for the last two years of high school, followed by Glen Gould School of Music and finished her masters degree at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Her accompanist for the recital, Topher Mokshevski is a rising figure in the Canadian Opera and chamber music. He currently serves as resident conductor of the Calgary Opera and was named one of the CBC Music's "Hot 30 Classical Musicians under 30" in 2013. Together Ambur and Topher will bring you an energized, uplifting performance that will bring classical music to new levels. A great afternoon of entertainment is promised for seasoned classical music lovers and newcomers alike.
