Celebrate this new event with us, whether you are first, second, third generation or more, we want all residents to be celebrated no matter how long they have been in Canada or Campbell River said Rachel Blaney, Executive Director of the Immigrant Welcome Centre.
An interactive world map will be displayed for guests to place a marker on where they have lived in the world as well as a First Nations territory map of BC for residents who have called Canada home for thousands of years. Residents and their ancestors have lived all over the world but for different reasons have come to Campbell River. It is really important for us to be aware of the influences that our residents cultures have on our city. You see it in our ethnic restaurants, the new British Store, and the totems and Torii gate. If you look carefully, culture is embedded everywhere said AiGuo Zhang, local business owner of the Edgewater Motel.
Entertainment and displays will include the Afro-Arabic Rhythm Experience, fiddlers and Tartan dancers, Tara School of Irish Dance, the Filipino Association, Francophone Association, Taoist Tai Chi Society and Uniglobe Travel. Kids activities, face painting, contests, games, demonstrations and educational and interactive displays will be ongoing throughout the event.
Enter to win a whale watching tour for two with Campbell River Whale & Bear Excursions by visiting the Facebook page for the Immigrant Welcome Centre of North Vancouver Island. The lucky winner will be drawn & announced at the event.
