Alice Walker is an American novelist, short story writer, poet, and activist. She wrote the critically acclaimed novel The Color Purple (1982), for which she won the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. Her poems continue to be read in American schools. Jane Hirshfield: Hirshfield’s poetry works with short forms, spare lines, and careful imagery of natural and domestic settings. Her poems frequently hinge on a turning point or moment of insight, and her many years of Zen study have influenced her poetry. Allannah Dow and Leah Hokanson, both Gabriola musicians, will present some selections from both poets and play cello and piano, inspiring us to feel the words resonate within. An hour that will allow you to meditate to music and words.
