May brings a feast of music for baroque lovers, courtesy of the Denman Island Baroque Festival. Hop on the ferry and walk up the hill to the Denman Island Community Hall for any or all of three amazing musical performances, featuring instrumentalists and singers, performing on period instruments in an historically informed style.
The Denman Island Baroque Festival is an intensive workshop for amateur instrumentalists and singers that draws participants from across BC and the Yukon. In its seventh year, the 2025 workshop has thirty participants, ranging in age from twenty-five to seventy-five! The Festival will culminate with three performances, none of which are to be missed!
The final concert on Saturday afternoon (May 10) features Handel’s Alexander’s Feast, with orchestra, chorus, and soloists. This work in the style of Handel’s Messiah, is based on a poem about Alexander the Great, who will grace the stage along with his concubine Thaïs - and some exotic eastern dancers. Prepare to be dazzeld! Tickets for this concert are $25 (Youth $5, Children under 12, free).
