Course Description: End of season maintenance is better for your equipment... and you'll thank yourself when the growing season starts again!
Learn how to take care of your machines and keep them running smoothly. Learn how to repair your hand tools, fix a wheelbarrow, and discover how to salvage parts and refurbish hand tools! We will go through preventative maintenance routines that will make all your growing equipment last longer and work better for you. From sharpening to oil changes, there are a lot of simple things you can do to save time and money -- while reducing your waste!
Instructor Bios: Aida Mashari owns and operates Enduring Equipment, a mobile business focused on repair, maintenance and sharpening of farm and garden tools and small machines. She was an organic vegetable farmer for six years. Over the last few years, she has been turning her attention to the repair and maintenance of farm and garden equipment. She currently maintains the tools and machines at the UVic Campus Community Garden. She is especially happy to work with all community gardens, farmers, backyard food growers and anyone who wants to learn to repair.
Stephanie Enevoldsen, Community Garden Coordinator, is passionate about food forestry and healthy ecosystems. Having immersed herself in homesteading, natural building and permaculture since 2001, she is excited to share her skills and introduce you to the fascinating world of food forestry! --------------------------------------- Agrarian Tool Repair is a workshop of a series of summer food cultivation workshops brought to you by Fernwood Helpings Hands, an outreach program that strives to increase healthy food access and develop food skills in the Fernwood neighhourhood. Spring Ridge Commons is situated on unceded Songhees Territory. Efforts towards decolonization and reconciliation extend beyond this acknowledgement.
