I will be teaching rhythms taught to me by Senegalise drummer David Tchaiw. We will layer rhythms together, discovering what it takes to create music in a group. We will be doing things like learning proper body, hand, and drum postions, learning basic rhythms that have spoken sayings to them as a memory trick. (recording devices welcome) We may do a little gumboot dancing to experience how to really get a rhythm into our bodies. It's something new to learn, and it's quite fun!
This workshop is suitable for ages 14 and up. Please bring a water bottle, and a djembe style drum. If you don't have one, and can't find one to borrow, then please contact me as i have three drums left to loan. Please contact me to register in this workshop.
I look forward to making music this Friday. I find music to be a healing tool, and a great way to connect with others. If you are interested in learning ways to harness and release energy/emotion, then music can be a great tool. I also lead singing workshops. More info at aprillaurie.weebly.com
