Crimson Coast Dance announces our 4th Annual African Connections – Celebrating Black History Month, February 2024, curated by Mozambican cultural activist, educator on dances from Africa, and founder of Afro Fusion Sharqi Dance™, Tania Amaral.
African Connections offers cultural engagements with a North African focus, woven around dance workshops on February 4th and a featured performance of What The Day Owes to the Night by globally-acclaimed Compagnie Hervé Koubi, in a co-presentation between Crimson Coast Dance MainStage Series and the Port Theatre Spotlight Series, February 5th at 7:30PM.
Join us all month long for activities dedicated to the authentic expression of African cultures!
Celebrate Africa Fair: This open market experience immerses you in the flavours, rhythms, and cultures of Nanaimo’s Black and African communities Monday February 5th, 2024, 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, The Port Theatre (Lobby), Free Entry
Karingana Wa Karingana: African Folktales story time for kids & families. A multilingual event! Saturday February 10th, 2024, 10:00 AM – 10:45 AM Harbourfront Library, Free Entry
Sharing is Caring: Enjoy an African style dish over an open conversation with Africans about their lives, cultures, and journeys with guests Tania Amaral, Nada El Masriya, Michael Bassili Friday February 16th, 2024, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, The Vault, Free Entry, Ticketed Meal
Let’s Dance & Talk with Nada El Masriya: Workshop series on Egyptian dances and their histories – from Baladi, to Awalim & Ghawazee, to the Golden Era Saturday February 17th, 2024, 9:30 AM – 5:10 PM German Hall, 4 workshops for $120 or $35 each
