Adonis Puentes & The Voice of Cuba Orchestra, an eight piece acoustic ensemble, are set to celebrate Cinco De Mayo (May 5th) in Victoria, BC. It will be a night of live music, dance lessons & competition, and celebrations at the Capital Ballroom.
The Havana born singer-songwriter, Adonis Puentes, has deep roots in Cuban culture and is a respected veteran musician who has called Victoria home for 20 years. As evidenced by his latest studio album, Dicen (The Talk), Puentes continues to celebrate his Cuban heritage while expanding his musical and lyrical influences.
"Each song is more than a song," Puentes continues, illustrating his compositions. "Each describes a mood, a state of mind. I have rich Cuban cultural roots, but I've also been on a unique journey. Living in English on peaceful and beautiful West Coast of Canada allows me a lot of quiet concentration. My songwriting reflects this, and on Dicen I explore many facets of love and the life I have lived."
It is sure to be a wonderful evening starting at 7:15PM with a FREE Dance Lesson presented by Salsa Caliente. Adonis Puentes & The Voice of Cuba Orchestra take the stage at 8pm for their first set, followed by an Amateur Salsa Dance Competition at 9:00PM (open to all, prizes to be won including ticket to see CUBA at the IMAX Victoria*). Afterwards another set by the band, and DJ Christina Morrison will close out the evening.
*Dance competition will be Jack & Jill (random partner). All competitors must pre-register by emailing [email protected].
Must be 19+ for admittance.
