A Wiccan Halloween - Samhain Public Ritual

The Temple of the Green Cauldron will be hosting the celebration and public ritual called �Samhain Ritual and Feast of the Dead�.
The service will include a guided meditation/trance, an altar to honor deceased loved ones and a potluck fest to honor the dead after the ritual.
Those who wish to honor there deceased loved ones are welcome to bring a photograph or memento to be place on the altar.
Because October 31 lies exactly between the Autumnal Equinox and the Winter Solstice, it is theorized that ancient peoples, with their reliance on astrology, thought it was a very potent time for magic and communion with spirits. The "veil between the
worlds" of the living and the dead was said to be at its thinnest on this day; so the dead were invited to return to feast with their loved ones.
Wiccans and Neo-Pagans also celebrate Samhain as the beginning of the New Year, the first day of traditional winter. To the ancient Pagans this was the time that the last of the harvest must be taken from the fields and decisions on what livestock must sacrificed and slaughtered to survive the dark half of the year.
