A Little Christmas with Encore!

Christmas is almost here and amid preparations for its annual Christmas Concert, the women of Encore! Women�s Choir are also in a �New York State of Mind�! According to Music Director, Christine Dandy, the energetic group of 30 singers has been working hard with accompanist, Rykie Avenant, perfecting their Christmas program while learning the repertoire for their upcoming trip to the Lincoln Centre in New York scheduled for early March 2014.

This year�s Christmas program promises something for everyone, including musical surprises, songs for audience participation, and traditional carols like the beautiful French carol �Quelle Est Cette Odeur Agreable?� According to Dandy, the timeless Christmas favourites, �The First Noel�, �Silent Night� and �O Holy Night� will be presented in fresh new arrangements she is certain will be very popular with the audience. Adding a Baroque flair to the program, the choir will perform the �Gloria� from Vivaldi�s beloved work of the same name and the duet �Laudamus te� from the same work will be performed by Heather MacGregor and Trish Dandy, both members of Encore!

The Program would not be complete without paying homage to the Big Apple in �Christmas on Broadway� with some �Silver Bells� and a little �New York, New York� thrown in. The audience will also get a taste of the music being performed at the Lincoln Centre on March 10, 2014, among which features Canadian composers Eleanor Daley and Stephen Chatman.
