With a roster of world class competitors, the 2016 Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals promises to be the most thrilling yet.

The national title in the MX2 class is up for grabs. Two-time National MX2 Champion Kaven Benoit will be competing in the MX1 class in 2016, so it’s anyone’s title. With the list of championship contenders, including Cole Thompson, Jeremy Medaglia, Jacob Hayes, Shawn Maffenbeier and Dylan Wright, the MX2 title chase is shaping up to be the most competitive in years.

The MX1 class will feature 2015 Champion Matt Goerke and his new teammate, 2013 Champion Brett Metcalfe, but will have their hands full with four-time Canadian Champion Colton Facciotti, Mike Alessi, Vince Friese, Davi Millsaps, Tyler Medaglia and Kaven Benoit. Last year’s championship went down to the final moto in a year that saw four different riders take the top step.

Local Details: Last year’s Nanaimo winners were Cole Thompson (MX1) and Kaven Benoit (MX2). Pro races June 12th. BC riders competing this year: MX1 class – Kamloops' Josh Allen and Aldergrove native Colton Facciotti MX2 class – Prince George native Jesse Pettis

Fun facts: The Wastelands race course – Cut into the side of a mountain, the Wastelands race circuit is a tight Supercross-style track with high banked corners, big jumps and spectacular spectator viewing. The Wastelands start is a thrilling right-hander bringing the bikes off the line directly into the main spectator gallery. Over 15 teams from four countries will be competing.

Motocross is one of the world’s most physically demanding sports. Imagine heart rates up to 180 beats per minute and racing for 35 minutes over the course of bumps, turns, and jumps, against a total of 40 riders per class. MX1 bikes weigh about 120 kilograms. Average riders can burn 1,000 calories in a single race.
