The Cowichan Intercultural Society, in collaboration with 7 community partners and over 120 sub-partners will host the 2016 One World Festival to continue to build an integrated and socially cohesive community in the Cowichan Valley Region.

Cowichan Intercultural Society (CIS) has created a planning team comprised of three development team members, one event coordinator and 22 sub task-force team leaders. With the additional support of our network, including 250 volunteers and over 190 artists and cultural performers, we will create a memorable 35th Anniversary Celebration.

The Festival will be an open community event. We anticipate approximately 4,000 attendees over two days.

The first day of Festival will feature the Cowichan History Display- Take a Walk Down Memory Lane, five “Eye-Opener” films, and diverse cultural cuisine demonstrations.

The following day will highlight a diverse range of cultural music, performances, cultural fashion shows, art exhibitions, activities for kids, and international foods. Additionally, there will be diverse commercial vendors, community service information booths, health and wellness services, workshops and multicultural activities.

At this festival, we facilitate the bridging and sharing between the many cultures that make up the fabric of our community. This zero waste festival will enrich, educate and inspire community members to work together to create a healthier and more inclusive community. It will also inspire meaningful relationships and the celebration of diversity in the Cowichan Valley Region.

This event fosters opportunities for open dialogue between cultural groups and promotes collaboration and togetherness. This breaks down barriers, and discourages racism, prejudice, and misunderstanding. This event will support diverse local artists, musicians, and culinary artists, as well as create networking opportunities for artists and small businesses in the Valley.
