In a SSNAP: Salt Spring’s Artist Colony Goes National The 2015 SSNAP Exhibition Debuts on September 25 52 artists from across Canada are finalists of the Salt Spring National Art Prize… Salt Spring Island, renowned as an artist colony, will host the Gala Opening of the 2015 SSNAP Exhibition on Friday, September 25 from 6:00 to 9:00pm. The Salt Spring National Art Prize (SSNAP) has built a national platform for the visual arts, honouring Canadian artists by providing the finalists with the opportunity to earn up to $25,000 in prize money.

The Best in Show prizing includes $10,000 and another $5,000 towards an artist residency on this little gem of a Canadian island. The month-long exhibit runs from September 25 through to October 26 at historic Mahon Hall with the prize announcements on October 24.

An independent, blind jury received over 1,300 submissions from across Canada, and selected 52 works from coast to coast. According to organizers the exhibit will be comprised of works from both well-known and emerging artists. “We couldn’t be happier with the calibre and diversity of contemporary visual works that we believe will engage, inspire and challenge,” says SSNAP founding director, Ronald T. Crawford. “This is a great start in establishing an art prize with a national focus that reflects all mediums from print making to mixed media, from sculptures to painting. We’re thrilled to present the most diverse show ever on Salt Spring Island with a national perspective from some of the best emerging and established artists in Canada today.” SSNAP Key Dates: September 25 – Opening The 2015 SSNAP Exhibition September 26 – The Arts in Canada: Where Next?
