Dance Gala presents the best of the best young dancers and troupes from Nanaimo and area, showcasing their talents in performances of styles from modern to ballet, from the street to the stage.
All performers have been selected from the Upper Island Musical Festival, after another thrilling season of talented dance competition for area youth and young adults. Many of the performers will represent Nanaimo in the upcoming Performing Arts BC provincial festival, to be held this May in Powell River. For more than 80 years, the Upper Island Musical Festival has continued to provide opportunities and venues for young dancers, pianists, singers, violinists, dramatic orators, and other musicians to perform in front of enthusiastic and supportive audiences.
Most performers are between the ages of 8 and 18, although there are several recital categories for adults. Their performances are observed by qualified and highly respected adjudicators, who provide encouragement and advice for improvement.
The most successful performers go on to represent Nanaimo and area in the Performing Arts BC festival each spring.
