AUNTIE KATE AND THE UNCLES OF FUNK

She began her career in the early 1980s alternating her time with between the west coast R&B band, Club Mongo, and singing jazz ballads with Patrick Dickson at Benihahas in the Hilton in Waikiki.
She first met longtime musical partner and guitarist, Tom Bowler, as a member of Club Mongo. In the late 80s the pair formed Auntie Kate and the Cheap Suits which soon took Victoria by storm. Along with bassist Clark Brendan, she and Bowler played a mlange of acoustic blues, Cajun, and R&B against a backdrop of high-voltage outfits, dark glasses, and of course, cheap suits!
A desire to dig into their funkier roots led to the creation of Auntie Kate and the Uncles of Funk. Over the next few years, the band toured relentlessly and released three CDs; Food For Thought, Do You Have This In Blue?, and Snapshots. A video was made and played all over the world and the band has been featured extensively on the blues channel of the Galaxie network.
A compilation CD, with live performances from some of Canadas best blues acts, was released by Edmontons famed Blues on Whyte club. This CD features two Auntie Kate tracks, Evil City Blues and After All These Years, released on the second CD.
Auntie Kate and The Uncles of Funk are currently working on a new, as yet untitled, CD. As well, an Aunthology, made up of mostly unreleased tracks recorded during the last several years, has now been released.

POWDER BLUES BAND

For nearly three decades Powder Blues has been Canadas favorite blues band. Their music incorporates elements of Swing, Blues, Jazz, Rock & Roll and Rhythm & Blues into their unique and instantly identifiable sound. This broad approach has resulted in an appeal whose demographic is so wide that it is not unusual to find people from seven to seventy swaying side by side at a Powder Blues concert. Throughout the years they have toured ceaselessly throughout Canada, the United States and overseas, spreading the joy of a music that makes people smile and dance.
