SUMMARY:Youth Visions for Stronger Neighbourhoods: Program Introduction
URL:http://www.harbourliving.ca/event/youth-visions-for-stronger-neighbourhoods/
LOCATION:ValleyLinks :: 532 5th Street Courtenay,
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:What do young people in the Comox Valley really think about our community? This is a question that Valleylinks is hoping to find answers to through their latest youth initiative, “Youth Visions for Stronger Neighbourhoods”. This is a youth driven program that looks at what young people like in their community, what they don’t like in their community, and provides a venue for participants to create plans that will initiate positive change.=0D=0A=

The findings of the project are presented to community leaders through video, photography and artistic media. ValleyLinks was fortunate to recruit 18 year old Angela Curtis into the leadership position for this program through their CAP Youth Internship Program funded by Industry Canada. =0D=0A=

Angela brings to the project a level of experience, maturity and social awareness that is an example of the skills and abilities our young people bring to the table when given the opportunity. It is her hope that “youth involved will be able to use the voice they find and carry that wherever they go next”, Angela further states; “It is really, sort of, an empowerment thing”.=0D=0A=

The focus of the program is to provide a platform for young people to showcase their strengths and abilities. In addition to showcasing existing skills, participants will have an opportunity to develop new skills or take their existing abilities to a new level by participating in training opportunities. Equipment and resources will be provided.=0D=0A=
