The workshop will take place at the Long and McQuade Music Education Centre on Nanaimo Street, as part of a free-to-the-public series of continuing blues study workshops presented by the VBS in partnership with Long and McQuade.=0D=0A=

Auntie Kate began her career in the early 1980s, alternating her time between west coast rhythm and blues band, Club Mongo—where she met long-time musical partner and guitarist, Tom Bowler—and singing jazz ballads with Patrick Dickson at Benihaha’s in the Waikiki Hilton.=0D=0A=

With her band The Uncles of Funk she has release five CDs: Food For Thought, Snapshot, Do You Have This In Blue?, Aunthology and most recently, a live CD, In the House, which was recorded largely at Hermann’s Jazz Club.=0D=0A=

Previous VBS workshops have included boogie-woogie piano with David Vest; blues guitar with Bill Johnson ; and, dobro guitar with Doug Cox and Sam Hurrie, among others. The next workshop is on Nov. 23, featuring guitarist Dallas Harlan teaching “how to be an accompanist.”=0D=0A=

The Victoria Blues Society is an affiliate of the Blues Foundation, based in Memphis Tennessee, and as such, is dedicated to preserving blues music; celebrating recording and performance excellence; and, supporting blues education. The VBS was incorporated in Jan. 2007.=0D=0A=
