DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:    For the 5th year in a row, the Geography Department at VIU, as well as other supporting organizations, will be hosting the Annual Urban Issues Film Festival. =0D=0A=
   This year's theme is "Urban Revitalization" and our keynote speaker will be JIM GREEN, a former Vancouver mayoral candidate and longtime urban activist, particularly for Vancouver's East Side. In addition to Mr. Green's presentation, there will be a number of short and long films that focus on sustainable urban development, community, urban sprawl and revitalization, including "Farewell Oak Street", a film about the very first social housing development to be built in Canada in the late 1940's; "Woodward's: The Competition", a 2005 film about the $150-million Vancouver Downtown East Side bid to redevelop the Woodward's Department Store property; "Doing the Right Thing", a film about Porto Alegre's new 'Participatory Budget' scheme that gives all Porte Alegre's citizens a say in how their city is run, and "Cycling Copenhagen: Through North American Eyes", an uplifting 12 minute film about Copenhagen's awesome urban cycling scene and how much it differs from ours (mostly in awesomeness). Following the films will be audience discussion, and question/answer period. =0D=0A=
