It argues that digital media, in particular, social media, is a disruptive technology. No longer is the mass media &ndash; tv, newspapers, radio &ndash; dominated by top down, one to many political communications the only game in town. Rather, more players are becoming engaged in political communication and political journalism all with varying effects. Examining the relationship between social media, &ldquo;fake news&rdquo; and populism in the Trump 2016 campaign.</p>=0D=0A=

<p>About the presenter: Peter (Jay) Smith, Phd., recently retired after 36 of teaching and research at Athabasca University. He taught undergraduate and graduate students in the politics of digital media. He has conducted research on both the dark side (eg. surveillance) and the bright side of digital media (democratic empowerment.)</p>=0D=0A=
