About Sekoya Revisited=0D=0A=
=0D=0A=
Though often compared to Chaka Khan, and recently crowned MTV Iggy’s “Music Diva #1”, Amalia (“The First Lady of Modern Funk”) has definitely followed her own muse over the years, shifting continents, harnessing her creativity in Canada and Europe, leading to brilliant collaborations with the “undisputed boogie master from Sweden”, Opolopo; France’s hip hop/vintage R&B extraordinaire Onra, UK man-atlarge Atjazz; and Central African Republic’s Boddhi Satva. But it’s as singer for the ‘ecclectronic’ Vancouver-based band Sekoya that Amalia first won over Canadian listeners in 2004. Sekoya is ready to once again serve up their iconoclastic blend of jazz, house, soul, spoken word, hip-hop, bebop, with a fresh touch of funk! Sekoya’s debut album garnered rave reviews from Miami to London (UK), resulting in a Canadian Juno nomination for “Best Contemporary Jazz Artist”. The band’s first single on Nutone’s jazz beat compilation “Sunset Nights” had them sharing the same scorching spotlight with electronic visionaries from all over the globe, including LTJ Bukem, Llorca, and Koop. Whatever starship she commands - from jazz influenced broken beats to late ‘80s/early ‘90s New jack swing and boogie - Amalia is no less than the funk bomb, dishing out all the sweat, dirt and sexiness that real funk deserves to have.
