Jessica Benini is a Victoria-based singer-songwriter, guitarist, and foot-stomping harmonica rocker. Jessica comically engages the audience with a heartfelt performance and raw storytelling, showcasing songs about adventure, life’s simple treasures and taking the road less travelled. Her musical style is a collage of folk, roots, blues, gospel and country, blended with her own salt-water sound.

Jessica has released to two albums, Express Yourself (2010) and No Regrets (2014). This past year Jessica toured Quebec with Canadian folksinger-songwriter, Bruce Murdoch. When Jessica isn’t on stage, she is at home in her studio teaching private music lessons. She also teaches at Larsen School of Music and WindStars Music Academy, specializing in voice, guitar, ukulele, harmonica, and songwriting.

Joining Jessica on stage at the Norway House for the Victoria Folk Music Society will be the incredible musicianship of Whitey Somers (Nanaimo, BC) on mandolin and lead guitar and Francis Tally (Victoria, BC) accompanying on the stand-up bass.

Our feature act will be preceded by what is arguably Victoria’s best weekly acoustic Open Stage session where musicians from fledglings to professionals can perform a 10 minute set for one of the most welcoming, attentive and participative audiences in town. Aspiring Open Stage performers can sign-up with the VFMS Host between 7:00 and 7:30pm to do a set but should get there early to improve their chances of getting on the evening’s line-up.
