Dave Lang and his group 'the Insolent Rabble' play jazz and swing like it was meant to be played. Their music is irreverent, fast, and fun. The only flats they worry about happen on the road and they can’t pronounce Phrygian but they’re pretty sure it has something to do with cold beer. This band changes the way people think about jazz. Original tunes like “Ou Est La Vache” and “She Just Went Crazy” are as well received as their novel arrangements of standards. Performance highlights include appearances at The Empress Hotel, Butchart Gardens, Rifflandia, and The Vancouver Island MusicFest. Dave Lang & the Insolent Rabble are proud to be the right band for any occasion, and they are just as comfortable playing a big festival or a fancy sit down show as they are busking on Victoria’s Inner Harbour Causeway. In 2015, they logged more than 100 paid performances.

Our feature act will be preceded by what is arguably Victoria’s best weekly acoustic Open Stage session where musicians from fledglings to professionals can perform a 10 minute set for one of the most welcoming, attentive and participative audiences in town. Aspiring Open Stage performers can sign-up with the VFMS Host between 7:00 and 7:30pm to do a set but should get there early to improve their chances of getting on the evening’s line-up.
