Vanessa Grant, author of the award winning, Writing Romance, 29 novels for Harlequin and Zebra, and over 10 million books in print, will present an all-day workshop for fiction authors in Nanaimo, November 3rd, Building 255, Room 170 at Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo from 0900 AM to 400 PM.=0D=0A=

In Session One, authors will explore character-driven plotting, and the technique of using the hero and heroine’s personal territory to build a bridge between character and conflict. Session Two will cover pacing to maintain tension. Pacing a book involves finding the balance between showing and telling, between emotional intensity and distance, between slow and fast.=0D=0A=

Authors will have an opportunity to pitch their work to an editor or agent by Skype.  Alethea Spiridon Hopson, Editorial Director of Indulgence and Senior Editor at Entangled Publishing, will accept pitches for all romance genres as well as mystery, thrillers and young adult. Emily Sylvan Kim, President of the Prospect Agency, specializes in general fiction, mystery, romance, fantasy/science fiction, juvenile fiction and children’s books. Pitch appointment are on a first come, first serve basis. Space is limited!=0D=0A=

Cost of the workshop is $20 for RWA members and $30 for non-members on or before October 19. From October 20 to November 2 at the door cost will be $40. =0D=0A=
