LOCATION:Phoenix Auditorium at the Haven :: 240 Davis Rd Gabriola Island,
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:
Tina Jones is a familiar name on Gabriola. She’s an integral part of the arts community here. We’ve seen her perform as 1/3 of Trio Say So (with Leah Hokanson and Allannah Dow), we know of her past work with The Kerplunks, and of her dedication to the Gabriola Arts Council as a Board Director. She’s an exciting songwriter and performer, (vocals, trumpet, banjo) whose music vibrates with cerebral, spiritual, and emotional content.
=0D=0A=

I talked with Tina about her upcoming concert. She’s been writing a lot of new material that she calls “Fluid Fuse”. She feels it’s key to be flexible and fluid and quotes author and social activist Franklin Veaux saying, “Life rewards those who move in the direction of greatest courage.”
=0D=0A=

The community building effect of vocal groups and choirs clearly moves her, as she sings a quiet but passionate few bars from a new song she will perform: “As we gather our voices…” She’s still considering which tunes by other artists will be covered. (“Be for Real, the 1992 Frederick Knight song also covered by Leonard Cohen, “There is Love Somewhere” from the Unitarian Songbook, and “People Get Ready” by Curtis Mayfield may well have made the list). Supporting musicians, Chad Geekie (piano/Fender Rhodes), Sean Drabit (electric/acoustic bass), and Hans Verhoeven (drums/ percussion) are versatile and confident practitioners of music who clearly love what they do, as does the always versatile and confident Tina Jones.
