The Witness Blanket, a nationally recognized and thought-provoking art installation about the impacts of Canada’s Residential School Era, will be displayed at Vancouver Island University’s The View Gallery from October 6 – November 30.
=0D=0A=Created by First Nations artist and master carver Carey Newman, The Witness Blanket is a wood-based art installation made up of hundreds of items reclaimed from residential schools, churches, government buildings, and traditional and cultural structures across Canada.
=0D=0A=To honor this important work, an official opening is taking place Thursday October 6. Everyone is welcome to attend. The opening and reception will take place at 6:30 pm in the Malaspina Theatre lobby where Carey Newman and others will be speaking about this important work.
=0D=0A=The Witness Blanket can be viewed from 5 - 9 pm that day before and after the speeches and reception. To view the installation, The View Gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday, 11am to 5pm.
