Started in 1861 to encourage the growing of food, Victoria’s agricultural exhibitions grew in importance. When the exhibition outgrew the 1884 purpose-built Agricultural Hall located beside Beacon Hill Park was replaced in 1891 a spectacular ‘Crystal Palace’ the Willows. Stuart Stark explores the architectural and social history of this magnificent, but short-lived building and what happened to the Exhibition grounds after its demise.
=0D=0A=

Stuart Stark, an award-winning Heritage Consultant, has worked on the preservation of some of British Columbia’s most significant heritage buildings, including St. Ann’s Academy, Carr House and Irving House. The Hallmark Heritage Society recently gave his The B.C. Agricultural Association Exhibition Building at the Willows an award.
=0D=0A=
