Keeping company with the MacDonalds was the president of the E & N, Robert Dunsmuir, naturally.  B.C. Premier Mr. William Smithe; the notorious judge Sir Mathew Begbie, and others who became rising stars over the British Columbian social, political, and industrial horizon.=0D=0A=

The Nanaimo Historical Society is a non-profit organization.  Founded in 1953 the Society's mission is to preserve, promote, and celebrate the history of Nanaimo and central Vancouver Island.  Annual membership is $24 for an individual, $30 for a family, and $34 for an organization.=0D=0A=
