DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:THE KULTH MUSIC FEST=0D=0A=
=0D=0A=
“The Folk Festival with an Edge”=0D=0A=
=0D=0A=
The Kulth is a festival for all ages created to bring people together under a banner of mutual respect for one another and for the environment we share. Festival participants can expect the highest standard of talent from both local and international acts, and a well planned and organized event. =0D=0A=
=0D=0A=
The Kulth's name has been borrowed from the Coast Salish people, who call Mount Arrowsmith "Kulth-Ka-Choolth" meaning "jagged face." The local community has a rich European heritage as well. First explored by the Spanish in 1791, and later by Adam Grant Horne , a Hudson’s Bay employee, Coombs, Hilliers, and Errington have developed into a community rich in tradition. In the late 1800's, the Salvation Army established a colony where the ideals of family and community were held with the utmost value, a tradition carried on to the present day. Settlers made their living in the fishery, forestry, and other resource based industries. These historical elements have been brought together in The Kulth's emblem to recognize the various roots of our community. Around a traditional First Nations mask spin the wheels of industry encircled by the banner of our province. =0D=0A=
 =0D=0A=
People today realize that a more sustainable approach to the environment is needed, and resources must be managed if we are to enjoy them in the future. Respect for our environment and greener living practices have become a categorical imperative. We can make this our legacy by building strong community bonds and a sense of social responsibility. Using the cultural gathering as a social tool, communities can foster strong social contracts and a sense of personal accountability to one’s community. Building these connections also provides enjoyment for all who are willing to explore the opportunity. =0D=0A=
