The Comox Valley Road Runners (CVRR) are hosting a 20 km trail race! The inaugural Cumby 2016 will take place in the hills above the picturesque and historic village of Cumberland. This is a place that seems to have changed very little.
=0D=0A=Where once it was the largest Chinese community north of San Francisco and was supported by coal mining, in the last decade Cumberland has developed a new reputation as a mecca for mountain biking. The Cumby takes advantage of an extensive system of bike trails. The route also includes parts of the Vancouver Island Spine Trail and provides scenic vistas of Baynes Sound and Georgia Strait.
=0D=0A=The race starts in Miner’s Park in downtown Cumberland and proceeds through the Cumberland Community Forest and adjacent working forests, climbing steadily to Mount Neikii. From there the route is undulating with numerous stream crossings, and quick ups and downs (short snappers). CVRR promises a race that is predominantly single track, with tough but runnable uphill climbs, fast descents and quick times.
=0D=0A=The race is also a fundraiser for the Cumberland Community Forest Society (CCFS). A portion of every registration goes directly to the CCFS as well as all net proceeds.
