=0D=0A=For over ten years, The Choirs YYJ has endeavored to bring amateur singers together to perform unique and original choral arrangements of pop, indie and folks songs.
=0D=0A=Before we were four ensembles (The Choir, The Chorus, Mini-Choir and Sound Dragon), we were a motley group of people who gathered in local music shop in 2013 to sing well-known and not-so-well-known songs for fun. (Still our first love.) In those early days, we had no idea that so many of our friends and neighbours were eager to belt out a song!
=0D=0A=Today, our group has multiplied in size, notoriety, and music-making activities. Collectively, our non-auditioned ensembles, “The Choirs YYJ,” includes over 200 people of all ages, genders, experiences, vocal abilities and musical tastes. The Mini-Choir is an auditioned chamber group performing similar yet more challenging repertoire.
=0D=0A=The Choirs are Directed by Marc Jenkins, and accompanied on piano by Erin Gray, and sometimes on guitar by Layten Kramer.
=0D=0A=The Choirs YYJ rehearse and perform, and are guests on the territories of the lək̓ʷəŋən (Lekwungen) and SENĆOŦEN-speaking (W̱SÁNEĆ/Saanich) peoples, known today as Esquimalt, Songhees and W̱SÁNEĆ First Nations.
