"Te Amo, Argentina" is an exotic audio-visual journey that draws audiences into the heart of Argentina and its fascinating, diverse culture. This autobiographical, multimedia performance features music from the Latin Grammy award-winning album Antonio Lysy at the Broad: Music from Argentina. From the Amerindian rhythms of the Andes Mountains, the city-street cafés of Buenos Aires, the combination of music and dance performances weaves together a pulsating and inspiring homage to Argentina. The performance includes pianist Patricia Hoy and live tango dance performed by the internationally acclaimed stars of Broadway's ForeverTango, Miriam Larici and Leonardo Barrionuevo.=0D=0A=

The story of this performance begins with Antonio Lysy’s father, violinist and director Alberto Lysy, who was born in Argentina and returned there frequently throughout his distinguished career. During Antonio’s many journeys to Argentina as a youngster, he was introduced to the sounds and textures of a fascinating and colorful country. Alberto Ginastera’s rhythmic works, the sentimental and passionate Tangos played over the radio, and the rich repertoire of folk songs performed by Eduardo Falú were all part of the soundtrack of his travels.=0D=0A=

As an artist, Antonio’s connection with Argentina inspired him to search out Argentine music for his own instrument. As he discovered and performed Argentine cello music, he began to ask composers to add more works to the repertoire, and many did. As a tribute to them, Lysy presented these works in 2009 at The Broad Stage in Los Angeles. Yarlung Records released an album of the performance repertoire, entitled Antonio Lysy at The Broad: Music from Argentina. In 2010 the album was awarded a Latin Grammy® for Lalo Schifrin’s specially commissioned piece, “Pampas”. Antonio explains: “I am forever grateful for the opportunity to deepen my appreciation of this music through the cello.” =0D=0A=

In celebration of the award, the Broad Stage welcomed Music from Argentina back to its series, only this time as a full theatrical experience. Projected artwork, custom animations, and tango dancers now accompany the music, celebrating the diverse terrains and cultural groups that influenced the composers. Through recordings of Antonio Lysy’ own voice, the performance also tells the story of his musical and cultural identity.=0D=0A=

The visionary performances of the Borromeo String Quartet have established it as one of the most important string quartets of our time. The Chicago Tribune calls the Borromeo "a remarkably accomplished string quartet, not simply for its high technical polish and refined tone, but more importantly for the searching musical insights it brings." The San Diego Reader calls their performances "a musical experience of luminous beauty," and the Boston Globe says "Each of the greatest string quartets has redefined what the possibilities of the medium are: through the perfection of its ensemble and intonation, through its poise and its passion, the Borromeos are recreating the medium anew and we are lucky to be here to hear it."=0D=0A=
